AP Art and Design

Course Description

The AP Studio Art 2-D Design course is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. AP Studio Art is not based on a written AP examination; instead, students submit portfolios of 24 artworks for evaluation at the end of the school year. The AP Studio Art: 2-D Design Portfolio evaluates students on three aspects of their artwork - quality, concentration, and breadth.

AP Studio Art is the equivalent to a first-year college art class. All students are expected to challenge themselves to develop mastery in concept, technique, composition, and 2-D design strategies. This course will provide experiences in a variety of media, materials, and approaches to creative 2D design problem solving. Students will learn to apply and synthesize these newly acquired skills into the creation of personal, creative, visually successful art works.
